Sail aboard the Picton Castle
A Square Rigged 180 foot three masted Barque. Home port Lunenburg Nova Scotia. The Picton Castle makes her way around the world as an active training vessel. The price is steep but the experience may be well worth it. Be advised, it's a working sailing vacation and voyages range from three months to a year. She will take on men and women over eighteen. We spotted her down by Sagamore Beach on Cape Cod last year on the return from the WoodenBoat Show at Mystic. She's a remarkable sight out on the water. What caught my eye was one of her lifeboats up on davits. The boat cuts some fine lines and with lapstrake planking, resembles an 1800s whaleboat. They row her with a crew of eight plus the helmsman.
This year she sails from Lunenburg Nova Scotia May 5th.
