Mystic Seaport, a Maritime Theme-Park
Mystic Seaport has created a wonderful theme park atmosphere that holds a wealth of maritime history. In addition to the many exhibits and galleries, the
Ship's Plan Collection
holds the contributions of many well-known naval architects in the form of classic wooden boat plans.
The Watercraft Collection at Mystic Seaport
houses over 500 antique wooden boats available for exhibits and for research by request.
One of our favorite things to do at the seaport is to get out on the water. And the
Boathouse,
provides a nice selection of small boats available for visitors to sail or row. You may also go for a guided sail on the museum's Cape Cod Catboat Breck Marshall , or take a ride down river on the steam-powered antique riverboat Sabina. The museum hosts some terrific yearly events! The Small Craft Workshop Weekend inspired by the work of John Gardener, bring an array of small boats to the seaport. Visitors have a chance to try out many of these boats and talk to the builders about their passion. Be careful, you may come next year with you own! The 2009 WoodenBoat Show will be held at Mystic again this year. Scheduled for June 26th-28th, it promises a wonderful line-up.
