MAYFLOWER II
In 1957 a small ship sailed across the Atlantic from Plymouth, England to Plymouth, Massachusetts to commemorate the voyage of the early English-American Pilgrims. This 1620 arrival initially shaped the colonization of early American life.
Many models have been made of MAYFLOWER and continues to be a pursued subject in contemporary times by artists, collectors and those fond of our maritime heritage.
To this end, I decided to build a miniature of the ship as she appeared in the '57 crossing. Unlike most contemporary works this piece is scratchbuilt using basic materials of toothpicks, select pine and paper.
The scale of this life-like model is 1:200 with an overall length of 8 1/2" inches. The rigging was quite challenging since linen is applied but the effect, phenominal.
