Crocker Compass Class Sloop

by Ray Heus
(Cape Cod)

This a wonderful design. Years ago I had one that was built by Chaisson in 1939. After restoring it I sold it, but always missed her sailing abilities. I decided to build another to plans obtained from Crocker's Boat Yard, and to make one that would last. The framing is all locust with cedar planking fastened with stainless steel. I changed the sail plan for a self-tending jib, and made the rudder blade retractable.

In the shallow water's of Cape Cod's Pleasant Bay 'Alice' is right at home. Light, seaworthy, and well balanced, she's very fast going upwind, and on a beam reach very few other boats can touch her.
