As a novice student, I attended several classes at the WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, Maine and another of their locations several years ago. What a great experience that was, learning with true wood working and boat building masters. One of the boats on display there, that I couldn't take my eyes off, was instructor John Brooks' 12 ft., lapstrake, rowing and sailing dinghy, "Ellen". So I purchased her plans from John through the WoodenBoat store (they also sell boat plans online), and, on and off over 3 years, built a 16 ft. version of "Ellen". I now row and sail her on the beautiful lakes of N. Idaho. I hope you enjoy my photos of the "Sweet Caroline", presented here. Since I am just finishing a new and larger shop, I am planning the lofting and then construction phases of a larger, carvel hulled, most likely 24 foot sailboat, with small cabin, based on Nelson Zimmer's 21 ft., 1 inch Gaff Sloop.
